Living in your teacher's home is an exciting way to learn English. The homestay experience combines English classes with sharing the everyday life of your teacher as well as enjoying the attractions and activities of beautiful southwest Colorado. We began accepting international visitors at Our Language House in 1995 and have hosted learners from Chile, Germany, Mexico, France, Switzerland, and Spain. We look forward to hosting you at Our Language House!
Language instruction
English classes are taught 10 hours per week in a structured setting and the learning continues throughout each day during your chosen activities. In addition there will be more opportunities to listen, learn and practice your English skills with your teacher during meal times, coffee breaks and cocktail hours.
We can accommodate a group of up to six people in one reservation and we only accept one reservation at a time. In this way we can assure you a personalized itinerary and the best English instruction.
Meals
All breakfasts and lunches are included. Meals are prepared in house and include healthy fresh food. We can accommodate special dietary requirements; please let us know. Dinners can be requested in house or you can choose one of Durango's tasty restaurants. Your homestay does include one dinner party with native English speakers. Each day includes one happy hour with cocktails or coffee & tea.
Our town
Durango, Colorado was founded in 1880 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. The town of about 20,000 residents sits along the Animas River at an altitude of 6512 ft. on the San Juan Scenic Byway in the Rocky Mountains. The historic wild west town boasts boutique hotels, art galleries, eclectic shopping and a many award winning restaurants.
Activities
Our region, known as the four corners, offers the mountains of Colorado, the desert of northern New Mexico, and the unique deserts of southern Utah. It is known for its outdoor activities such as skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, hiking, swimming, cycling, mountain biking, stand up paddle boarding, river rafting & kayaking. Many national parks and monuments of cultural importance are also nearby such as Mesa Verde National Park, Chimney Rock National Monument and Aztec Ruins National Monument. Durango and other nearby towns offer art galleries, boutique shopping and year round special events like the Rocky Mountain Ukulele Festival held each July.
Transportation
Transportation is provided to all activities that have been arranged. Transfers from and to Durango airport (DRO) to Our Language house are included. We have parking available if you choose to rent a vehicle.
Location
We are located on the edge of the San Juan National Forest in Durango, Colorado. Durango is a town of approx 20,000 people in the southwest corner of the United States. We are 2 1/2 hours from Telluride, 7 hours from Denver, Colorado and 4 hours from Santa Fe, New Mexico
